NWCQ Jewellery Challenge
North West Contemporary Quilt
North West Contemporary Quilt was set up about 12 years ago as part of a Quilters’ Guild initiative. The group meets six times a year in Frodsham and also holds two workshops annually. Sessions are informal but structured so that the time is used wisely. They are planned and run by group members, with the aim of furthering practice in contemporary design, use of art techniques such as printing & dyeing, and experimentation with alternative materials.
In the last 12 months the group has looked at the Japanese design concept of Notan and had a series of sessions on the ‘Inspired by Jewellery’ theme. These sessions have included design experimentation, translating designs into a textile piece, monoprinting & gelli plate printing, shibori and indigo dyeing. At each session members have shared work recently completed or in progress, offered ideas if requested for a current project, and shared information about exhibitions, books and information sources for quilting inspiration. The group is friendly, supportive and full of enthusiastic quilters, and also aims to enable them to push themselves and learn from each other.
New members are welcome. Please contact Lesley Hall ([email protected]) for further information.
